I know we just talked about this Friday, well... at least, I think that's what day we talked about it... But I wanted to talk a little more on your so-called jobs, what you do for a living. Isn't that a crazy phrase: "What you do for a living." When you meet someone, you have the casual, "My name is so and so." "Oh, hi, so and so. What do you do?" What?! What do I do? You mean, right now? What am I doing? Or do you mean, what do I do about this issue or that issue? Oh, you must mean, what do I do about changing the world? No? Oh, then I guess you must mean, what do I do for a job... right? Of course. Well, I'm a dentist, a mom, a receptionist, a farmer, a restaurant owner and the waitress, retired... What we do on a daily basis as our "job" should be nothing but. Every "job" that people have is important. Even if you are the guy who nobody ever sees, in the background. And you should strive to do your very very best at the "job." But you wanna know your real job? The people there. They are what's important. The people you come in contact with. Are we saying, "Hello. How are ya," just out of courtesy? I have to admit, I say that a lot, out of habit, and I'm not really sure if I truly mean it. Do you? You don't really wanna take those 5 extra minutes out of your day to really find out if someone has a missing link, or if they need a listening ear, do we? I'm just not so sure anymore.
Wasn't that Jesus' whole "job?" His purpose? The people? Jesus would've never have gotten anything accomplished if He didn't mean it when He asked, "How are you?"
So when you get to your "job" today, just start with one. It seems a little overwhelming to change your world and your supposed way of life overnight. But if we wanna grow as a person for a greater purpose, to leave a mark when we leave this earth, just start with one. Next week, add someone else. You might just start loving everyone around you, finding less to be so agitated about.
Shalom, my friends, Tara K
